IAU President Elected as ASAIHL Trustees Board Chair
The annual conference of the Association of Southeast Asian Institutions of Higher Education (ASAIHL), the 60th of its kind, was held at Universiti Putra Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, from 4th-6th December, 2016 with the motto of “Borderless open Access Education”.
A delegation from Islamic Azad university headed by professor Hamid Mirzadeh, the IAU President, attended the conference along with over 200 other universities from 35 countries to bolster and foster the exchange and dissemination of experiences in strengthening the status of higher education institutes in the world as well as encouraging research on the ways to promote higher education in the region.
According to Azad News Agency (ANA), Dr. Mirzadeh was unanimously voted to chair the board of trustees for a two-year term. Also, Dr. Ninat from Thailand was elected for another two-year term as the Secretary -General of ASAIHL, while acknowledging the invaluable output of Dr. Aini ldris, the UPM president, during her office as the head of the board of trustees.
The ASAHIL, established in 1956 as a non-governmental organization whose secretariat is in Thailand, has grown to become one of the largest international academic associations with 240 member universities from countries as varied as Japan, England, Australia, Indonesia, India, Myanmar, Vietnam, the USA, France, East Timor, Poland, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Brunei, Singapore, The Philippines, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Belgium, Canada, New Zealand, Sweden, and Iran.
ASAHIL serves as a hub of information for the members providing regular opportunities for the discussion of academic development and exchange of academicians as well as boosting regional and trans-regional academic collaborations. It is worth mentioning that eight other Iranian state universities and the Islamic World Science Citation Center (ISC) also joined the ASAIHL over the recent conference in Malaysia.
